Thread: Patch 3.3: 5 Man Instances and Badge Gear(Hunter)

On these forums there are a lot of fresh 80’s looking for answers for what they should be spending their badges on and what heroics they should be running. This is a list of all of the gear that can be obtained from 5 man instances and badges only. I will not include raids like VoA or OS and I will also not include crafted gear, reputation gear, pvp gear or BoE gear not found in 5 mans.

This is for the casual player who logs on to do a few heroics a night, the player who has taken a 6 month sabbatical from the game and wants to get back into the swing of things or for the player who has a geared main but wants to get gear for his/her alt too.

As of Patch 3.3 heroic instances will now drop Badges of Triumph. This will make obtaining Tier 9 gear rather simple. I will do my best to point out the Best in Slot gear but I will also include other gear since you are not going to have enough badges right away to go out and buy all Tier 9. You will have to run a lot of heroics before that point and you need to have something to run those heroics in.

I am limiting this list to Mail gear specifically. I will not include gear with expertise, like rings, since it is a useless stat for us and there is other gear that is easy to obtain. I will be adding a BiS list for 5 mans and badges when I finish:

Best in Slot 5 man instances and badges list:

This list is made using a standard Survival Spec that most hunter that just hit 80 will be using. I am using my own toon who is a blood elf but I will be obmitting my professions so any player can use the list.

I will be using the website [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to compare each piece of gear to find the actual best in slot pieces. For raid buffs I am enabling best raid buff and best raid debuffs expcept for using your own hunter's mark. I realize that this list is for 5 mans and you will not have the best raid bufss but I am trying to simplify this. Settings are left the way they are normally. I will be using the 46.50 dps ammo since most casuals will not be buying the more expensive ammo( if you do, cheers to you!).

*If you are gettting into raiding, I suggest getting the enchant called Cat's Swiftness. It is a run speed increase and will help you move out of bad stuff faster. I found this enchant hard to find on my server, so a good alternative is Tuskarr's Vitality. I personally think it is worth loosing 10 agility to gain increased run speed.

***** This weapon is harder to come by than most, you have to wait for the quest item to drop and then win the roll. For most people, you will not see this so because of this I will add a section as to what weapon you will want instead and what gear you will have to change around to make your gear comination the most effective. Look at the bottom of this section for the revised gear list and expected dps.

Ranged:

Enchant: Heartseeker Scope

This combination of gear will net you around 8087.29 dps on a tank and spank fight fully raid buffed. Since I made this list for more casual players you will probably not be doing raids and your dps will not be as high as I mentioned. This is just a potential number. When I removed all raid buffs besides your hunter's mark the number drops to 4204.31. This will probably be a number much closer to what you can achieve in 5 mans.

I know personally my dps is about 3000 less in 5 mans then what femaledwarf has me at fully raid buffed. Use this just as a reference.

I know it is a debate on whether gemming for yellow socket bonuses is worth it. In the set up I used, it is a slight dps increase over gemming straight agility in those yellow sockets.

I still need to do a bit more checking on this list. This may not be the final list so look for updates if you are concerened. Any advice/comments/questions/concerns are appreciated.




****** This is the section on your gear without the Quel'Delar, Ferocity of the Scorned. There are a few pieces of gear you will have to change around to make this combination work so here it is.

Weapon:

Yellow Socket: Deadly Ametrine

Instead of having a Glinting Ametrine in your yellow socket of the chest, put a Deadly Ametrine.

With this set up, you will 27 over hit cap. There are pieces you can replace so you aren't so far over cap. The belt, bracers or cloak are good places to start. This gear set up will net you around 8022.79 dps fully raid buffed and 4183.55 dps self buffed. It is a marginal dps decrease from what you would have if you did have Quel'Delar, Ferocity of the Scorned.

Best in Slot 5 man instances and badges list:

This list is made using a altered standard Marksmanship Spec. I will be using my own toon, a blood elf, and will be omitting my professions to put everyone on the same playing field. Usually at lower gear levels, SV will do more dps, but for some people playing a more fun spec is more important, and MM is that for a lot of people. The spec I am using is asuming you have enough Armor Pen to be able to drop arcane shot and have steady shot hit harder. The only time you would use arcane shot is when you are moving and your other shots are on cool down. Silencing Shot is macroed to all your instants as long as you have the mana pool to support it.

I am going to try to continue to update this list to see if I can find better combinations of gear. With this gear and all the information I provided at the top, this spec and gear combo can do around 8191.97 dps fully raid buffed in perfect raiding conditions. A more realistic number that you could see in 5 man heroics is 4367.92 dps.

With this gear set up, you will be at 562 Armor penetration. You are going to have less hit on your gear and will have to rely on talent points to gain hit. With MM, the talent tree is more flexible than the SV tree. You can put points into Focused Aim with loosing a very important talent.

Side note, if you have some of this gear but not all of it, your Armor Pen may not be high enough to be able to drop Arcane Shot. If this is the case, you can spec 3 points into Improved Arcane Shot. To gain these 3 points you can take points from Improved Barrage, Rapid Recup or from improved Steady Shot. If you like, you can play with the dps analyser on [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to see which would be the best option for you. In this case, you would also priortize arcane shot over steady shot.

Even with the lower armor pen, it will still be high enough to prioritize steady shot over arcane so keep the same priority as mentioned up top.

This gear set up will net you around 8037.62 dps fully raid buffed and 4325.91 dps self buffed.
