Ambitious new project - World of Everquest (custom WoW server)
I started playing EQ when i was very young, back in the early days of EQ, and it was quite an experience, after having played many other MMO's as many of you have, WOW has definitely topped the charts in terms of smooth gameplay and a bugfree environment, as well as all the little utilities that make wow so unique, mailboxes, great PVP, etc.
At last, I've decided to create a private WOW server that brings elements of both EQ and WOW to make one superior gaming experience.
Here is but a few of the things we plan to do with this server:
1) A complete item revamp: Probably will accomplish this by eliminating all current 'magical' items on WOW and leaving greys/whites, and just building up an entirely new set of magical items from there, ensuring a well balanced game, but without overpowering toons too easily, which WOW does - this will bring the WoW experience more in line with that of Everquest giving it a bit tougher play style and a more challenging experience overall, you'll actually seek out upgrades instead of just having greens/blues thrown at you.
2) Custom content, including zones (such as the Plane of Fear) raid bosses (such as the God of Fear, Cazic Thule) etc, also will feature custom classes (necromancer, bard, etc) and custom races (ogres, etc) Some zone ideas off the top of my head that will be implemented:
*The Planes of Influence - such as plane of hate, fear, growth, etc from Everquest lore.
*The Planes of Power - earth air fire water and maybe some time, including custom models for specific mobs from the EQ history.
*Necromancer class
*Bard class
* others??
Also there will be custom items and quests: including
Class-specific Epic items, these will be legendary items that are very great in terms of power as well as difficulty to obtain, expect these to require top end raid drops, some time input, as well as many rare and coveted drops. In an attempt to keep these items relevant through the introduction of newer content, they will also be required as part of the quest for higher tiered versions, epic 2.0s etc. This will be a recurring theme in some cases, preventing new 'expansions' from making current content useless.
At this time I haven't worked on any other custom items/content, but expect a lot more. Off the top of my head a Fungi armor with heavy regeneration could be make an appearance, and other well known items from both EQ and WoW
3) Completely revamped Craft skills, I intend to make these a bit harder and a bit more rewarding, no longer will EVERY single character choose to craft, and those who do will fine it more rewarding.
4) A more challenging leveling experience, Quests experience will still be there, but it will be lowered, to compliment but not replace Grinding xp.
Grinding xp may be lowered by 20% or so also, depending, to make it a bit harder to lvl, but the weaker items may also fix this without lowering xp %. This will give you the real GRIND of everquest.
5) Donation-encouraging Currency, similiar to the Everquest marketplace, this is where those who donate to maintain the server (100% of donations will go towards cost of upkeep on server) will be rewarded with a custom Currency (such as alt. currencies in wow and EQ) and can purcahse many fun trinkets, port items, custom pets, and vanity things, perhaps even XP potions and 'heirloom' items such as the gold-named ones in Wow that give XP boosts as well as level with you will be available here. However, unlike every other wow server i have seen, you will not be able to buy your way into the most powerful toon spot - those who choose not to donate can still become the strongest players on server - This is the only way to prevent the server from becoming like most wow servers do, a system that rewards only those who donate.
6) Looking into possibilities such as AA (alternate advancement, in EQ this is a way you can get levels to boost your stats and unlock abilities, in WOW it may take some other form to advance yourself)
7) Looking into possibilities of guild halls, etc.
That said, I will do my utmost best to bring the most fun and useful trinkets to make donations worthwhile, Port items will be a key example, though it doesn't make you any stronger, it will be a huge benefit in terms of convenience and time!
